SPROUTING & ROTTING //
The ‘Sprouting & Rotting’ series came to life while I was working in the kitchen. Aged vegetables caught my eye, some embarking on a journey of sprouting, while others began to rot. Despite their diverse paths, all these vegetables share a common purpose, the innate drive to reproduce.
In this cycle, certain vegetables break down, releasing their seeds, while others draw nutrients from the parent fruit to begin germination and develop roots. Over time, the mother fruit completes its life cycle, giving birth to a new plant that eventually produces its own fruits.
It’s a perpetual narrative of life, death, and rebirth within the natural world.
The series of images was created in 2017, a time when I started to explore the creation of cohesive series that share a common theme and style. It was also the first time I presented a series of images together.
For the colors and style, I drew inspiration from my passion for painting. In terms of lighting, they are influenced by the chiaroscuro technique, employing a soft light source. The images feature a central composition within a square frame, characterized by rich dark umber tones. The intention was to infuse them with a somewhat painterly feel.
